Eureka is very much like her mother and father, in that she's bold, but sweet. She's very friendly, always one of the first rats to greet me. Eureka tucks her hind legs every time I pick her up, and has even given me kisses. She loves to explore, but also likes to stay close for attention.
Eureka's type is not bad, but has room for improvement. She's small, but has a nice overall appearance. Her head shape is good, her eyes are good, but her ears are a little small. Her coloring is good, though her points could be darker. Her coat is poor for a rex.
Eureka descends from my outcross between one of my males and a female from Illinois. He is the second generation in this outcross. The goal for this outcross was to improve the health and type of my rats. In this generation I have seen an amazing improvement in the heads of my animals. I hope to fix this trait into the line, while working at improving other traits. At this time I am still gathering health information, but so far Eureka's grandmother and her sister are doing wonderful. They will turn 2 years old on February 11, 2010 and so far have had no health concerns, are holding good weight, and don't look a day over 1 year. Eureka was bred in Spring 2010, but miscarried late in the pregnancy, resulting in an infection. She survived treatment and recovered fully, but was then retired from breeding and now lives happily as a pet.
