California rat breeder
Black Wolf Rattery (BWR) is a small rat breeder located in Southern California. My rats are bred primarily as pets, with "wildly friendly", affectionate, people-oriented temperaments selected for breeding. Currently my main focus is Russian blue Burmese. Chocolate, mink, and Russian blue varieties are also produced. This secondary focus will be narrowed in time. I produce an average of one litter every two months, and thus may not have babies available for adoption at all times. If you are interested in my rats, please feel free to contact me at any time. I also hold a wait-list, which I use to keep interested parties updated on my litters.
Black Wolf Rattery came into existence in 2001, after I had been keeping pet rats for ten years. Since that time my rattery has undergone several transformations, but my goals have remained the same: breed better rats. In the fall 2006 I started reworking my breeding program. I am currently a member of the Northern Illinois Rat Organization (NIRO), where I currently hold the position of Secretary. I am also a member of the North American Rat Registry (NARR), where all rats and litters residing and born here will be registered, and a member of the American Fancy Rat and Mouse Association (AFRMA).
Why adopt from Black Wolf Rattery?
I do not mass produce rats, nor breed for whole-sale. My rats are strictly placed as pets-only to private adopters.

Jun. 25, 2009: Unfortunately my Internet access was postponed (by the company) until June 24th. I now have Internet at home again. Please be patient as I update my website and answer inquiries and requests for updates. Thank you for understanding!
Jun. 13, 2009: Black Wolf Rattery is moving! We will still be in Southern CA but are moving up into the San Bernardino mountains. I will continue to meet adopters in Redlands. For the time being emails will not be answered immediately. Starting today I will not have Internet access at home until Jun. 19th. Please be patient during this time. Thank you for understanding!
May 1, 2009: Some litter plans have changed slightly. The planned litter with Heart is being canceled. The remaining planned litters are being moved forward in time and spaced apart more. I am still accepting wait list inquiries and reservations on these litters. If you were interested in babies from Heart's litter, your interest is automatically being transferred to the other litters and you will be kept up to date. If you want to be removed from the list, please let me know.
Apr. 28, 2009: Black Wolf Rattery currently has no babies available for immediate adoption. All babies from previous litters have been placed or are being placed. Wait-list inquiries for future litters are being accepted. The next planned litter is expected to be born late-May or early-June.
Black Wolf Rattery will no longer adopt out single babies, no exceptions made. Baby rats adjust best to their new homes when placed with a friend. Even if the potential adopter currently has rats at home, the baby will still need to be quarantined for a minimum of three weeks prior to introduction. During this time the baby will be alone. Such isolation can be extremely stressful and even traumatizing, especially for young rats. Thank you for understanding.
